When: Thursday, August 12th, 7:00 pm About the Queen West Musicfest: The 2nd annual Queen West Musicfest is a FREE celebration of Toronto's vibrant independent rock music scene, featuring seven bands, many from the Queen West core - an area saturated with unsigned and undiscovered acts, comprised of musicians normally only appreciated in smaller indoor venues. Five are of the unsigned variety, hailing from, or performing frequently in, the Queen West area. These bands are in search of a record label, and a stage to promote their product on a larger scale than they would otherwise be afforded without powerful promotional backing reserved only for the most popular national/international acts. All proceeds from the event, including beer garden revenue, will be donated to the St. Joseph’s Health Centre, with the goal of raising $15,000 for the charity. With four albums in seven years, two of them gold; Ten Top-10 singles, two of them No.1 and one gold; multiple awards, for best single, video and live group; and close to 800 live shows under their belts, including support slots for the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, Guns N’ Roses, Nickelback and KISS, this Canadian rock band never rests. The Trews - comprised of lead vocalist Colin MacDonald; his brother, guitarist John- Angus MacDonald; cousin, drummer Sean Dalton, and long-time friend, bassist Jack Syperek - keep pushing themselves in the studio and onstage, always ready to give an intuitive and intense rock 'n' roll show of songs that have killer hooks, such as "Hold Me In Your Arms" from the band’s latest studio album, No Time For Later. The song, whose video rose to No.1 on national television station MuchMusic, achieved gold status for sales of 20,000-plus digital downloads. The U.S. Indie Music Awards declared it 2009’s Best Hard Rock Song. The Trews are 5-time JUNO Award nominees, and although 2010 has only just kicked off, their song "Sing Your Heart Out" from Friends And Total Strangers was nominated for Best AAA/Alternative Song at the 2010 U.S. International Acoustic Music Awards and the band was up for Favourite Live Artist Group at the 2010 Independent Music Awards in March. Meanwhile, this tireless band is hard at work writing for their next album, due for release in 2011, and true to character, they will hit the road this summer to do what they do best - play live, rocking the Queen West Musicfest on August 21st. Coming Soon! Queen West Musicfest 2In the wake of last summer's highly successful inaugural event in the heart of Queen West, plans are underway for Queen West Musicfest 2, returning to beautiful Trinity Bellwoods park on August 21, 2010! Check back for updates on our soon-to-be announced headliner, as well as the five Queen West based indie rock bands that will comprise the rest of the 2010 line-up. If you are in a Queen West area rock band, and would like the opportunity to audition for a spot on the Queen West Musicfest 2 roster, click here. Queen West Musicfest would not be possible without the generous support of our partners. If your business would like to be a part of this year's indie rock celebration in beautiful Trinity Bellwoods Park, click here. And in a continued effort to focus on the Queen West Community, Queen West Musicfest has partnered with St. Joseph's Health Centre Foundation for 2010. Located at the foot of Queen St. West SJHC has served the needs of the area for over 80 years. QWMF raises over $8000 for charity! On behalf of the Queen West Musicfest organizing committee and the Toronto East General Hospital Foundation, I would like to thank everyone who supported and attended our inaugural event for their generous support in making the 2009 Queen West Musicfest a reality. It gives me great pleasure to say that, with your help, the Toronto East General Hospital raised over $8000 on a memorable afternoon in celebration of independent rock music. Our goal was to not only raise money for a good cause, but to promote some of the finest unrealized talent hailing from the Queen West independant rock music scene. And we could not be happier to hear of the successes enjoyed by our independent artists since the August 23rd event. Buoyed by an inspired performance at the Queen West Musicfest, Opus Road was quickly offered a tour Eastern Canada for the very first time, and recently returned from a successful trip playing to packed houses and raucous crowds. Likewise, Chris Caddell, after opening for the QWMF headliner, Grady, just put the finishing touches on two of the biggest deals of his musical career. Caddell will be playing with Juno award winner Colin James on upcoming Canadian tours, and in a separate project, he has been asked by Juno award nominee Ian Thornley to assume the role of touring guitarist in his solo project. Thornley is best known for his success in fronting the highly successful Canadian act Big Wreck. It was a truly memorable afternoon of rock music in Trinity Bellwoods Park in support of a great cause, that our musicians will, with a little luck and timing, use as a valuable springboard to future success - none of which would have been possible without your support!
